Play-offs Dreams a Win Away!

The Detroit Red Wings play-offs hope just got a whole bunch better. With the Jets hamming the Stars last night 7-1 and the Canucks dousing the Flames 5-1, the Red Wings play-offs hopes are all up to them now. If the Red Wings win their season ending game tommorow againts the Islander's them, they iare in. If they loss, then they are out on the golf course.

Their hopes and dreams are in their own hands and thats they way coach Burns likes it. "There is nothing worse then waiting on someone eles to see if you are in. We know now what's on tap. If we win we are in and if we lose then we have no one to blame but ourselves."

The Wings hit the ice this morning for a full practices and coach Burns had them all working hard. "We are all treating this as the start of the play-offs. We are gearing up and getting on our game faces. I mean I have read that some say that we will be burt out just trying to make it, they got another thing coming to them. the reason why where our in this problem is because we have not been playing this past month. Our guys are well rested and now its time to get busy living or get busy dying!"

"This is it for us. We have to go out there and play a full 60 mins of our style hockey" Thornton said.

Detroit's top line has been on fire the past few games with the newly acquired Straka playing the Left Wing with Thronton and Amonte, this line has become a deadly scoring threat each shift.

If this is the time the Wings want to show they are cup material tommorow is the night. If they win they are in and face-off againts the top team the Leafs or Canucks. Anyway you look at it the climb to the top wont be a easy one, but hey the Wings dont seem to like to do it the easy way as you can see.

The Red Wings with the help of 19,254 fans won a must win game last night againts the LA Kings. This game finshed off the season series with Detroit comming out on top in the 2 games to 1. This last meeting was a big game for both teams. With LA chasing the President Trophey and Detroit looking to make the play-offs, last nights match was more then just a game, it was a battle.

The Wings in front of a sea of red, and a noisey crowd, open up the scoring at the 10:56 marker of the 1st peroid with the Gold Boy Brett Hull stripped the puck from Kapanen feed it up to Hartnell, who then found Johansson in the slot for the 1-timer goal.  Detroit then struck again on the Power Play with a big goal from the point from Blake. Detroit hit the lockers at the end of the 1st with a 2-0 lead.

LA then struck eairly in the 2nd at the 1:47 marker with a huge Power Play goal from Redden. LA then took control of the peroid but they couldn't crack Theodore's armor.

Then off the 3rd peroid face-off, Detroit headed into the LA zone where Thornton took a picture perfect pass from Straka and rattled it off the post. LA's Sundin then quickly jumped on the rebound turned it up ice to a pinching Pronger who then treaded a nice pass to a streaking Tkachuk who bludged the twine and tied up the hockey game.

That goal pumped up the Kings who took contol again of the game but Theodore stood up and keep his team in it. Finally mid-way thru the 3rd a pretty tic tac toe goal from Straka to Amonte across to Thornton who this time barried it into the back of the net for the game winner.

The Wings then with alittle help from Theodore held on to the lead and the big time win to keep their play-off dreams alive.

"That was a huge game for us" Hull said.

"We're putting a ton of pressure on ourselves," Yzerman said. "I can tell you, there wasn't a guy in this room last night that wasn't excited about they way we battled thru and got that win"

When asked about his 2nd peroid post shot Thronton said "it was abit of a let down specially when then marched back the other way and scored on us, but we just stuck with it, played hard and things worked out and I got another chance and barried this time."

When asked about the win coach Burns said "Hey we are not in yet. We still have 1 game left to win and we also need alittle luck. But the main thing we have to focus on is our part. We have to go out there on fri night and win, its that simple."

In order for the Wings to make it they will need alittle help from Vancover and Winnipeg. The Wings need the Flames to drop 1 or of their last 2 games (or a tie and a loss) and the Jets to beat Dallas tommorow night. If those 2 things happen all the wings need to do is win their finally home game againts the Islanders. Sound simple enough!

Good old hockey at its finest!
